The Morning Devotional: Psalm 114
Prayer: Our great God in heaven, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we give you thanks for revealing yourself to poor and miserable creatures of dust. You made us. We belong to you. You fashioned us after your image to enjoy you. Yet, we sinned and brought shame and dishonor to that image you gave us.
It's a common observation that a local church, like any other gathering of people, is not immune to conflict. When a group of individuals, all sinners, come together, it's only natural that disputes will arise. These conflicts can even occur between people who share the same love for the Lord and Savior as you do.
We live in a world of instant information. Yet, with our access through various mediums and devices, God’s people are more biblically illiterate than ever in history. Not long ago, parents catechized their children, conducted family worship each evening, and spent time praying together as families. Not long ago, missing worship (both services) would have been unthinkable. Things have changed in our modern world, and I am not convinced they have changed for the better. The fruit of our failures to catechize, conduct family worship, and teach the importance of corporate worship each Lord’s Day is rotten. Its effects are visible across the spectrum of our culture and, worse, our churches.

We are often troubled when those who refuse to bow the knee to you seek our ruin, but we confess that it is much harder to endure when it comes from those who name the name of Christ; from those we worship with week after week.
