The Daily Prayer: Psalm 55
The Morning Devotional: Psalm 55
Prayer: Our God and Father, we come to you in the name of your Son, the only mediator between God and men, knowing that as we do, you will hear us and give ear to our cries for mercy. We are often troubled when those who refuse to bow the knee to you seek our ruin, but we confess that it is much harder to endure when it comes from those who name the name of Christ; from those we worship with week after week. We confess, our God, that we are often troubled and very sorrowful when our brothers and sisters seek our harm by slandering and betraying us. We confess that it is bewildering to experience these things from those who profess the same gospel and love for Christ that we do. In fact, our God, we are more comfortable when enemies of the cross seek our ruin, but we find it difficult to endure when it comes from the visible household of faith. WE know, our God, that your Son experienced the height of denial and betrayal. One of his disciples turned him over to evil people. Another denied knowing him. Others fled when he was in his greatest hour of anguish. We know that he learned obedience through these things that he suffered, and we know that we are learning as well. Please help us to grow more like your Son in these things. Though we long for relief and repentance from these hurtful people, we know that you are not always pleased to do that. Still, you are willing to hear us as we cast our cares on you. Therefore, Father, please help us trust you when our so-called friends seek to harm us. Please guide us through these things, and may you be pleased to bring all glory to yourself in them. We ask and pray all of these things through Christ our Lord. Amen.
