The Morning Devotional for October 27, 2020:

27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell. (Matthew 5:27-30)

Daily Prayer for October 25, 2020

Prayer: Our great and glorious God in heaven: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we are thankful and glad to join with other believers in the faith once delivered to the saints today. With great joy and zeal, we come to praise you in song and to hear you speak to us through the reading and, especially, the preaching of your Word. We are thankful that you purpose to condescend to poor sinners and meet with us as we gather. With great delight, we will enter your presence, and with great gratitude, we will adore you, the one living and true God. We bless your name on this another Lord's Day because you have redeemed us and set us apart from the world to be your own possession, a royal priesthood, and a chosen and holy people. We know this would be impossible without the work of the great High Priest, the Lord Jesus Christ to whom we all our entire lives -- every breath and every word and every action -- to the praise of his glorious name.

Daily Prayer for October 23, 2020

Prayer: Our Father in heaven, you alone are holy. Your Word tells us that you are the thrice-holy God who is to be feared and adored. You have revealed yourself to your creatures and shown us that you are a God of loving-kindness and compassion. You gave us your Law and set before us your moral demands that display your righteousness and perfection. Yet, we are ashamed in reading and hearing them because we break them and sin against you daily in thought, word, and deed.

The Morning Devotional: Matthew 5:21-26 (Part Three)

The Morning Devotional for October 23, 2020

21 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults[b] his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell[c] of fire. 23 So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. 25 Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison. 26 Truly, I say to you, you will never get out until you have paid the last penny.]21 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’

Prayer: Our God in heaven, we thank you for not treating us as our sins deserve. We praise you for your patience with us knowing that we often fall short of your glory and demands. We confess that we are not always patient with others, often responding in harsh ways with our words and actions. Forgive us for failing to see how kind and compassionate you are towards us and help us to strive to be temperate, gentle, and long-suffering with others.

Prayer: Our God in heaven, we humbly bow before you today as your people -- a people with many needs and concerns. Many things are competing for our time and attention in this world, and other things are causing us to fret. We plead with you, the god of providence, that you would help us to labor faithfully today as those called to do all things to your glory. We confess our worry and anxiety and know that you have told us to cast all of our cares upon you because you care for us.

Prayer: Our glorious Father, you who dwell in unapproachable light, we bless your name today as the only true God and our God. We give you thanks for your redeeming love poured out on your people from all eternity and demonstrated in the work of your beloved Son. We are humbled at your work of salvation in bringing sinners to yourself. As we reflect upon your love and the great cost of the sacrifice of the Passover Lamb, we are often ashamed of our lack of zeal and love for you and your kingdom…

Daily Prayer for October 11, 2020

Prayer: Our God in heaven, the one living and true God, we thank you for the tremendous blessing of the Lord's Day. We are grateful for the privilege we have to come into your presence today, gathered as a peculiar people, to adore your majesty, sing your praises, plead with you for more grace, and to hear from you as your Word is read and proclaimed. Like the psalmist, we say with one mind, heart, and voice, "It is good to go to the house of the Lord." We are your people, gathered by the Good Shepherd. As the sheep of your pasture, we desire to come into your gates with thanksgiving, with shouts of joy for the ministry of the resurrected Savior…

Prayer: Father, we thank you for your divine plan to give your people one day in seven to be refreshed by your presence. We are blessed beyond measure with your abiding promise to speak to your people through the preached Word. Though we know that you use the preaching of your Word, the living voice of Christ speaking, we also confess to you that we are sometimes negligent in preparing to hear your Word…
