Daily Prayer for October 8, 2020

Prayer: Our Father, you are a kind and gracious God, forgiving sin and transgressions through the work of Christ in his active and passive obedience. Through our union with Christ, we enjoy the assurance of your love, peace of conscience, joy in the Holy Spirit, the increase of grace, and perseverance to the end. As our Father, you give to your children that which they need. Each day you show forth your Fatherly care for us in giving to us that which we need. Through your care, we enjoy our daily bread and the means to that end. We thank you for being kind to us…

The Morning Devotional: Matthew 5:21-26 (Part Two)

The Morning Devotional for October 8, 2020:

21 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire. 23 So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. 25 Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison. 26 Truly, I say to you, you will never get out until you have paid the last penny. (Matthew 5:21-26, ESV)

Daily Prayer for October 7, 2020

Prayer: Our God in heaven, we look out across our land and our world, and we see so many people living in rebellion against you. We witness the depravity of wicked people being exercised in the street. We hear the speech that is laden with vitriol and language that displeases you. We look, and we take note that men made in your image, with the law of God written on their hearts, are living in complete rebellion to your law and your holy demands. We are ashamed of these image-bearers and all of their actions. We know that if not for the glorious gospel, we too would walk as they walk. We, too, would be like these people who are darkened in their understanding…

Matthew 5:18-19 (Part Two)

18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19 Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.(Matt. 5:18-19, ESV)

Daily Prayer for October 6, 2020

Prayer: Father, we come to you today as your children knowing that as our Father, you are able and ready to help us. You have told us to cast our cares upon you, and that is what we are doing when we pray and plead with you for all that we need in our lives. In prayer, we express our complete dependence on you for life. It is you that gives us the air that we breathe. It is you that determines the number of beats of our heart. It is you that provides for us our daily bread…

Daily Prayer for October 5, 2020

Prayer: Our God in heaven, you alone are holy and sovereign, the only true God of heaven and earth. We praise you for your divine wisdom in governing all of your creation and all your creatures. We thank you that you are good and gracious to your people, a God who forgives sin and unrighteousness because of the work of your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. We pray that you would help us this week to live our lives as living sacrifices before you. As sheep, we frequently wander from your ways. We desire to be as holy as is possible for sinners. Help us, by your Spirit, to do all that you have told us and to do it with joy and delight as those who have the great privilege to be ambassadors of the King of Kings and Lord of lords. We pray this in the name of the Lord Jesus. Amen.
