SUMMARY: Psalm 66:1–7 presents a powerful call to universal worship centered on God’s mighty redemptive acts, particularly the Exodus deliverance, which prefigures the salvation accomplished by Christ. The passage unites the entire creation in joyful praise, highlighting God’s awesome power and sovereignty, while also confronting the rebellion of those who refuse to submit. It emphasizes that Christ, as the fulfillment of Old Testament redemption, invites all people—both believers and unbelievers—to recognize His authority and respond in worship. Though the wicked may currently exalt themselves, they will ultimately bow before Him, either in repentance or in judgment. The psalm thus serves as both a summons to worship and a sobering reminder of divine justice, urging believers to reflect on God’s redemptive work and to prepare their hearts for corporate worship with reverence and joy.

Shout for joy to God, all the earth;
2     sing the glory of his name;
    give to him glorious praise!
3 Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds!
    So great is your power that your enemies come cringing to you.
4 All the earth worships you
    and sings praises to you;
    they sing praises to your name.”

5 Come and see what God has done:
    he is awesome in his deeds toward the children of man.
6 He turned the sea into dry land;
    they passed through the river on foot.
There did we rejoice in him,
7     who rules by his might forever,
whose eyes keep watch on the nations—
    let not the rebellious exalt themselves.
