The Daily Prayer: Psalm 42

Prayer: Our God, we give you praise for your wisdom in calling us to worship you each week. We know that you do not need our praise. We know that you did not give us worship because you needed it. We do. We need it. We are pilgrims in this fallen world, and corporate worship reminds us that we belong to you, the one true and living God. Yet, Father, there are times when we are prevented from being in the assembly of God's people. There are times when we cannot gather with your people on the Lord's Day because of circumstances beyond our control. Sadly, there are times when we do not miss it. We are ashamed that those things are true of us. Yet, Father, we know that it delights you to see your children gather and praise you. We know that it is for our good to worship you. Please forgive us for those times when we are absent, we do not miss it. Please forgive us for our lack of affection toward you and your worship. Please give us the desire to be where you are each week. Please keep us from being prevented from gathering with our brothers and sisters. Please change our hearts and cause us to joy in your presence and ache when we cannot be. Thank you, our God, for loving us and calling us before you. Please contrine to guide and direct us, we pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
