The Morning Devotional
Psalm 58
May 19, 2026
Do you indeed decree what is right, you gods?
Do you judge the children of man uprightly?
2 No, in your hearts you devise wrongs;
your hands deal out violence on earth.
It's a common observation that a local church, like any other gathering of people, is not immune to conflict. When a group of individuals, all sinners, come together, it's only natural that disputes will arise. These conflicts can even occur between people who share the same love for the Lord and Savior as you do.
We live in a world of instant information. Yet, with our access through various mediums and devices, God’s people are more biblically illiterate than ever in history. Not long ago, parents catechized their children, conducted family worship each evening, and spent time praying together as families. Not long ago, missing worship (both services) would have been unthinkable. Things have changed in our modern world, and I am not convinced they have changed for the better. The fruit of our failures to catechize, conduct family worship, and teach the importance of corporate worship each Lord’s Day is rotten. Its effects are visible across the spectrum of our culture and, worse, our churches.

The Morning Devotional: Psalm 58
Prayer: Our God in heaven, you alone are perfectly just in all that you do. You alone are infinitely wise, knowing the end from the beginning. As such, you always deal justly and righteously with your creatures. You alone discern the thoughts and intentions of men's hearts, and you alone know all things -- those done in the open and in secret.
