Daily Prayer for the Lord's Day, December 14, 2025: Psalm 54
O God, save me by your name,
and vindicate me by your might.
O God, hear my prayer;
give ear to the words of my mouth.
For strangers have risen against me;
ruthless men seek my life;
they do not set God before themselves. Selah
Behold, God is my helper;
the Lord is the upholder of my life.
He will return the evil to my enemies;
in your faithfulness put an end to them.
With a freewill offering I will sacrifice to you;
I will give thanks to your name, O Lord, for it is good.
For he has delivered me from every trouble,
and my eye has looked in triumph on my enemies.
(Psalm 54:1-7)
Prayer: Our God, you alone are the almighty King of heaven and earth, and you alone save and deliver your people from the hands of evil people. Though we sometimes grow weary of the behavior of others, we know that you hear us when we cry out to you. Yet, Father, we grow restless waiting for your deliverance. We confess that we grow impatient waiting for you to vindicate us and restore our good name. Too often, our Father, we wrestle with the struggles of our minds and hearts. Too frequently, we fail to be at peace with whatever circumstance you bring to us. We know that you love us, and we know that you do all things well, but we are miserable creatures of dust who are often fearful of the smallest of things and the slightest attack. Teach us, Lord, to trust you completely. Teach us to lean on you, not on our understanding of things. Remind us that we are finite, but you are infinite. Remind us to live, move, and have our being in you. We pray for you to bring justice to those who harm your people. We know that vengeance belongs to you, so we prevail upon your justice and plead for you to turn the hearts and minds of evil people in repentance or destroy them entirely. Please vindicate your glory and name and guide us all our days, we ask and pray for the sake of Christ our Lord. Amen.
