Daily Prayer for May 27, 2025: 1 John 1:5-7

5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. (1 John 1:5-7)

Prayer: Our God in heaven, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we bless and praise your Name today because you are holy and in you is no shadow of turning or darkness at all. You alone deserve our worship, and you alone deserve every ounce of our being in service to you. You are the God of heaven, sovereign and mighty, bringing light from darkness, the One who gave us your beloved Son, the Light of the world. We thank you that, though we loved the darkness, you were pleased to bring us to the light by changing our hearts and minds and giving us the faith to believe. We thank you for the powerful work of the Eternal Spirit who resurrected our dead hearts and made us alive in Christ. Yet, Father, we know that we are dust. We know that we are prone to wander back into the darkness of our sin. We know that we transgress your holy, moral law each day. We confess that we are ashamed at how easily those things happen to us. We grieve the fact of our indwelling sin that prevents us from loving you as we should. Please forgive us and cleanse us through the blood of the Passover Lamb, the Light of the world, the Lord Jesus Christ. 

We beg of you to help us walk according to your Word and ways. Please change our hearts and help us to love others as you command us. Please help us to love our enemies and those who have wronged us. We know that our spirit is willing, but our flesh is weak. Yet, you have promised us your Spirit to strengthen and guide us and help us to live as you command. Please help us to love you, Father, because you first loved us. These things we pray through the Name that is above every name, the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
