Daily Prayer for August 26, 2025: Psalm 10:1

Why, O Lord, do you stand far away?
    Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?(Psalm 10:1, ESV)

Prayer: Father, there are times when we feel like the Psalmist when he laments that feeling that you are standing far away from us, hiding from us. We confess this miserable feeling usually when life is hard and frustrating, and when the circumstances of our lives shake us to the core. Our God, we know that you have promised to be with us in every trial, affliction, hardship, and calamity. Yet, there are times when we feel like you have left us alone to figure it out while we wander in darkness and despair. We know your Word tells us otherwise. We know it tells us that you are the Good Shepherd of the sheep and that when we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, you are with us. Still, Father, we struggle with our emotions and long for your presence to be felt when we struggle. We confess our lack of trust in you during those times of great struggle and pain. We live in a world full of heartache, and we face it more than we care to admit. We are sick of the struggles with our sin, and we are tired of hearing of the miserable condition of man. We are tired of dark providences that sometimes shake us to our core. Yet, we know that even if all hell should shake its fist at us, you are there gently guiding us to our heavenly rest. Please, Lord, do not abandon us and leave us to ourselves, for in that we have no hope. Please come and guide us and help us in our distress. Please use these times of sorrow and hurt to conform us into the image of your beloved Son. We know it is holiness you seek, and we know we have much to learn. Please use these times when it seems you have abandoned us to teach us to depend more on you. We pray these things through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Scripture Meditation: Psalm 10:1
Hymn: How Firm a Foundation

5 “The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose,
I will not, I will not desert to its foes;
that soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I’ll never, no, never, no, never forsake.”
