Daily Prayer for April 19, 2026: Isaiah 58:13-14
“If you turn back your foot from the Sabbath,
from doing your pleasure on my holy day,
and call the Sabbath a delight
and the holy day of the Lord honorable;
if you honor it, not going your own ways,
or seeking your own pleasure, or talking idly;
then you shall take delight in the Lord,
and I will make you ride on the heights of the earth;
I will feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father,
for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
(Isaiah 58:13-14, ESV)
Prayer: Our God in heaven, we bless your holy name today because you have called us apart from the world to unite with our brothers and sisters in public worship. We thank you for the rest you give us -- rest from our usual activities and common affairs; rest from our employment and labors. We thank you for the eternal rest pictured for us on this one day in seven. Yet, Father, we know that we do not always honor this day as you have commanded. We confess that we often use this day for our own pleasure instead of for the purpose for which you made this day. We confess that our conversations are often shallow, lacking concern for the good of our brothers and sisters. Forgive us, Father, because we are often short-sighted, forgetting that you made this day for us to remind and encourage us of your presence and grace. We know this day pictures for us the promise of the new heavens and new earth. We know this day pictures for us, the rest of our souls gain through the work of your Son. We know this day is designed to feed our souls because man does not live on bread alone. Please help us and strengthen us! Please grant us your grace and the Eternal Spirit. We desire to honor you as you command. We desire to do so from hearts full of joy and gladness. Please forgive our cold, weak hearts and restore to us the joy of salvation. We pray these things through Christ our Lord. Amen.
