The Morning Devotional: Psalm 120

Prayer: Our God in heaven, who is a God who seeks peace with us although we are sinners and prone to wandering from all you command. At one time, while we were still dead in sin, you sought peace with us, thereby reconciling us to yourself through the labors of the Prince of Peace, the Lord Jesus Christ. Although we were at odds with you, you, out of your eternal love for us, made peace and brought us to yourself. You opened our eyes and ears to see and hear the terms of peace, the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. As such, you recreated us and placed us on a path different from that of the rest of the world. We bemoan the reality that we live among a sinful and adulterous generation. We lament the fact that we are surrounded by those who hate you and slander your people. Father, the swords of their mouth are often so sharp and painful! Sometimes they cause us great distress. Sometimes they set ablaze a fire that rages day and night. We grow anxious and worry. Sometimes we behave as if we should fear them. Yet, we can call to you, Lord. We can call to you in our distress and find help in our time of need because we have a sympathetic High Priest who has been tempted in all ways we are, yet without sin. Therefore, Father, remind us to draw near to you and find mercy and grace in our time of need and those times when wicked people seek our ruin. We know that your Son suffered much worse than we ever will. Please help us to remember that you are ever near, ready to help through all these things. We pray these things through Christ our Lord. Amen.
