The Daily Prayer for the Lord's Day: Psalm 147:1-6

Praise the Lord!
For it is good to sing praises to our God;
    for it is pleasant, and a song of praise is fitting.
2 The Lord builds up Jerusalem;
    he gathers the outcasts of Israel.
3 He heals the brokenhearted
    and binds up their wounds.
4 He determines the number of the stars;
    he gives to all of them their names.
5 Great is our Lord, and abundant in power;
    his understanding is beyond measure.
6 The Lord lifts up the humble;
    he casts the wicked to the ground.
(PSalm 147:1-6, ESV)

Prayer: Our great and glorious God in heaven, our Father and sustainer of our lives and souls, we bless your holy Name today and offer you our prayers and praises to you because you are good and kind, gracious to your redeemed people. It is good for us to praise you, for you alone are worthy of our adoration and love. We have many reasons to praise you. You give us our daily bread and sustain us with the things we need in this life. You bless us with clothes and shelter. You give us food and provide us with employment. You preserve your Word so we can read it, and you give us your Spirit so we can understand it. You protect us in a world that hates you. You have drawn us to yourself and given us hope when there was none. It pleased you to crush your Son for our sake, and through him we have peace with you. You loved us before the world began, and you demonstrated that love by giving us your Son. Indeed, our God, we have many reasons to praise you!

Forgive us for those times when we fail to remember the many blessings you give us. We know that we are not worthy of the least of your mercies. You are kind and forgiving to us though we often wander from your commands. You ease the pain of the brokenhearted. You bind the wounds of those who physically struggle. You are the Almighty God who made all things in the space of six days. What is man that you are mindful of him? Yet, our God, you care for us and show us great pity as we travel to our heavenly rest. Please bless us today as we gather to praise you. Please fill our hearts with love for you and zeal to honor you. Please speak to us through the reading and preaching of your Word. Please help us, for we are weak, but you are mighty. Grant us your presence, we ask and pray, in the Name of your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
