Daily Prayer for the Lord's Day, February 1, 2026: Genesis 2:1-3
Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2 And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. 3 So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation. (Genesis 2:1-3, ESV)
Prayer: Our God, we come before you today knowing that you made this day as you make all days. Yet, this day is different for you made it holy. You made the Lord’s Day for us to remind us of your blessed promise that we are your people and you are our God and we will dwell in your midst. We need this reminder because we live in a sin-wrecked world and are often assailed from various fronts that seek to suck us into worldliness. On this day, you pull us out of the normal and transport us into your glorious presence, uniquely and supernaturally. On this day, we are reminded of the blessing of your presence and the hope of the Gospel secured by your beloved Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Father, we confess to you that we often miss the great blessing that comes to those who do not misuse this day. We are worldly, we know. Our hearts are not always seeking your kingdom, and this day draws that painful truth out of us. Like a mirror, this day shows us our sin and reminds us of the hope of Christ, our Sabbath Rest and Passover Lamb. Forgive us, Father, for losing sight of the hope and blessing this day affords all those who love you because you first loved them. Please grant us the will and desire to serve you as we sing your praises and hear you speak through the preaching of your Word. Speak to us, Lord, for your servants are listening. We pray these things through Christ our Lord. Amen.
