Daily Prayer for November 17, 2025: Psalm 30
I will extol you, O Lord, for you have drawn me up
and have not let my foes rejoice over me.
2 O Lord my God, I cried to you for help,
and you have healed me.
3 O Lord, you have brought up my soul from Sheol;
you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit.
4 Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints,
and give thanks to his holy name.
5 For his anger is but for a moment,
and his favor is for a lifetime.
Weeping may tarry for the night,
but joy comes with the morning.
6 As for me, I said in my prosperity,
“I shall never be moved.”
7 By your favor, O Lord,
you made my mountain stand strong;
you hid your face;
I was dismayed.
8 To you, O Lord, I cry,
and to the Lord I plead for mercy:
9 “What profit is there in my death,
if I go down to the pit?
Will the dust praise you?
Will it tell of your faithfulness?
10 Hear, O Lord, and be merciful to me!
O Lord, be my helper!”
11 You have turned for me my mourning into dancing;
you have loosed my sackcloth
and clothed me with gladness,
12 that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent.
O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever!
(Psalm 30:1-12, ESV)
Prayer: Our God, we live in a fallen and miserable world due to the infection of sin and its effects on our lives. There are so many things that trouble us. They leave us wondering and often bothered. We hurt in our bodies and minds. We find these awful experiences too terrible to endure. We find ourselves longing for the glories of heaven and the end of this fight with the world, the flesh, and the devil. We are troubled by enemies within and without. We witness those who profess faith in you seek our ruin through malicious lies. We witness others who hate you and your Son attack your people and lose their lives. We grow weary of this constant reminder that we are sinners and live in a sin-wrecked world. But you, our God, know and work. You are worthy of praise in our darkest moments and hardest trials. You are worthy of thanks for not treating us as we truly deserve. You have forgiven us for our many sins and transgressions. You comfort us with the reminder that you hear your children when they cry out to you. You are good and do all things well, and we praise you for that simple truth, although there are many things we cannot explain. So, we cry out to you as weary pilgrims. We plead with you for your judgment, justice, and righteousness to work against our enemies. We pray for you to convict them of sin and restore them. We ask you to work in such a way that the heavy hand that is upon us will be removed. Still, we pray for you to use these times to sanctify us completely, purifying us and conforming us into the image of him who suffered in all ways we do yet without sin. Please cause us, our Father, to look to you with a childlike dependence. Please guard us from leaning on our own understanding. Protect us and use us for good, come what may, we pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
