Daily Prayer for January 19, 2026: Psalm 1
*NOTE: I plan to write a series of prayers through selected Psalms.
Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2 but his delight is in the law[b] of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
3 He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
4 The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
6 for the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.
(Psalm 1:1-6, ESV)
Prayer: Our God, you who gave us your Word as a light to our path and a sure and solid hope as we pilgrim to our heavenly rest, we thank you for your grace and kindness as we look forward to serving you today. We thank you for promising to be with us and help us as we seek to glorify you with all that we do. We are grateful to you for giving us your Word, which we can meditate on day and night. We thank you for the promise of fruitfulness and stability as we seek your mind in the Holy Scriptures. Please grant us the desire to love your Word and to think on it often. Please help us to drink deeply from the bread of life, knowing that we do not live by bread alone, but by every Word that comes from you. Although the wicked refuse to hear you speaking in your Word, we are new creatures made to listen to your voice. Please help us to hear you as you speak through the Scriptures. Please grant us the understanding we desperately need so we can joyfully and willingly serve you. We pray these things through Christ our Lord. Amen.
