SCRIPTURE LESSON Matthew 14
Mr. Chris Turner, Ruling Elder
Jesus responds to the death of John the Baptist: He prays, heals the sick, feeds the 5000, walks on water, demonstrating that He is the promised one.
CORPORATE CONFESSION OF SIN
All: Almighty God, we praise your holy name today as your redeemed people chosen by you to love you and love others. We know your Word commands us to love others as we love ourselves. It exhorts us to love our enemies, and we confess that we often fail to do so. We know that you love us with an eternal love, and you proved that love by being pleased to crush your Son for our sake. Though we were your enemy, you were pleased to redeem and adopt us as your children. Forgive us, Father, for falling short of your demand in this area. Forgive us for being so shortsighted when it comes to those who revile, persecute, and trouble us. Please grant us the willingness to obey your Word in this area we pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Romans 5:6-11
Minister:
For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
All: Amen.
