SCRIPTURE LESSON Matthew 11
Mr. David Matzen, Ruling Elder
Jesus confirms His own identity as Messiah and that of John the Baptist as the Messiah’s forerunner; and He condemns the cities of Galilee for not receiving their message.
CORPORATE CONFESSION OF SIN
All: Almighty God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, you alone are holy, and we are creatures of dust. Though we have been redeemed through the work of your Son and called to union and communion with you, we wrestle with our sin each day. Your word tells us that we sin daily in thought, word, and deed. Though we hate it, we know that indwelling sin continues to hound our every waking moment. Forgive us! Your Word tells us that there is rest for us through your Eternal Son. He has told us to go to him, and there we will find rest for our weary souls. Please grant us more understanding of his love and kindness as he patiently and carefully guides us to our eternal home. These things we pray in the Name of your beloved Son and our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
John 10:27-29
Minister:
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand.
All: Amen.
CONFESSION OF FAITH The Westminster Larger Catechism Q7-10
Mr. David Matzen, Ruling Elder
Q. 7. What is God?
A. God is a Spirit, in and of himself infinite in being, glory, blessedness, and perfection; all-sufficient, eternal, unchangeable, incomprehensible, everywhere present, almighty, knowing all things, most wise, most holy, most just, most merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth.
Q. 8. Are there more Gods than one?
A. There is but one only, the living and true God.
Q. 9. How many persons are there in the Godhead?
A. There be three persons in the Godhead, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one true, eternal God, the same in substance, equal in power and glory; although distinguished by their personal properties.
Q. 10. What are the personal properties of the three persons in the Godhead?
A. It is proper to the Father to beget the Son, and to the Son to be begotten of the Father, and to the Holy Ghost to proceed from the Father and the Son from all eternity.
