SCRIPTURE LESSON Matthew 4

Jesus is led by the Spirit into the wilderness where He is tempted by the devil, whom He rebuts by citing Scripture, succeeding where Adam failed. At verse 12 He begins his public ministry as prophesied by the Old Testament.

CORPORATE CONFESSION OF SIN
All: We have heard your Word this morning, and we pray that we as your redeemed people would learn from your Word that we might fight against the world, the flesh, and the devil. We confess that we are creatures of dust in dire need of your grace and mercy. We acknowledged our need for you each day, moment by moment. Though your favor and love guide us, we are prone to the temptations of this life. Though there are no temptations that have come to us that are uncommon to man, and though you have promised to provide a way of escape, we sometime fall and give in to the desires of our sinful flesh. Forgive us, Father. Please help us to watch and pray lest we enter into temptation, and grant us an abundance of your Holy Spirit so we can serve you. We pray these things through Christ our Lord. Amen.
