Call to Worship

Psalm 48:1-2
Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised
in the city of our God!
His holy mountain, beautiful in elevation,
is the joy of all the earth,
Mount Zion, in the far north,
the city of the great King.

Prayer of Invocation

§Hymn                                O Bless the LORD with All My Soul #103B

Scripture Lesson                                                                            Isaiah 58

Corporate Confession of Sin
Minister: My brethren, let each of you present himself before the face of the Lord, and confess his faults and sins, praying together with me:

All: Almighty God, we bless your holy name today because you alone are God, and there is no other. You have called us from darkness into your marvelous light. We thank you for your infinite mercy and grace in redeeming a people for yourself. We know your Word tells us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Forgive us for misplaced goals and priorities and for engaging in behavior that is inconsistent with a follower of the Lord Jesus. Grant us more of your Spirit and help us. We plead and pray these things in the name of the Savior, Your Son, and our Lord. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon
Isaiah 53:1-5
Minister: He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.

All: Amen

 Confession of Faith                                                         The Apostles’ Creed

Minister: Congregation, what is it that you believe?

All:

I believe in God the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary;
suffered under Pontius Pilate;
was crucified, dead, and buried;
he descended into hell;
the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirt;
the holy catholic(1) church;
the communion of saints;
the forgiveness of sins;
the resurrection of the body;
and the life everlasting. Amen

(1) The term “catholic” means universal.

Pastoral Prayer and Lord's Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
