Corporate Confession of Sin

Minister: My brethren, let each of you present himself before the face of the Lord, and confess his faults and sins, saying together with me:

All: Almighty God, we look to you today as our only source of strength and hope. We are pilgrims in a dark and dreary land, and we long for a better country as you have promised in your Word. We thank you that you did not come to rescue the righteous, but, instead, came to rescue the poor and lowly of heart. As your redeemed people, we are ashamed of the state of our attitudes and priorities. Your Son’s delight was to do your will. Ours is often to do our own. We confess our weakness and our wandering. We plead with you to make us as holy and is possible for sinners. We ask these things in the name of Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Jeremiah 31:31-34

Minister: “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. All:  Every sin deserveth God's wrath and curse, both in this life, and that which is to come.

Minister: Q. 85. What doth God require of us that we may escape his wrath and curse due to us for sin?
All: To escape the wrath and curse of God due to us for sin, God requireth of us faith in Jesus Christ, repentance unto life, with the diligent use of all the outward means whereby Christ communicateth to us the benefits of redemption.
