§PRAYER OF INVOCATION

§HYMN Give to Our God Immortal Praise #215
Based on Psalm 136

SCRIPTURE LESSON Genesis 3:1-7
The temptation and fall of our first parents

CORPORATE CONFESSION OF SIN
All: Our God in heaven, we have heard your Word read, and we mourn the Fall. As our first parents fell, we fell. In Adam, we are miserable creatures, prone to temptation and sin. In Christ, we have the glorious hope to be with him and be like him. We know we are prone to temptation, and it often comes through our wicked desires. As we mourn our indwelling sin, we plead your forgiveness. Please grant us a greater hatred of sin and a greater love for you and your commands. We pray all of these things through Christ our Lord. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON?
1 John 1:9
Minister:
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
All: Amen.

CONFESSION OF FAITH Westminster Confession of Faith Ch. 13
Of Sanctification

Minister: What do the Scriptures teach regarding Sanctification?

1. They, who are once effectually called, and regenerated, having a new heart, and a new spirit created in them, are further sanctified, really and personally, through the virtue of Christ's death and resurrection, by his Word and Spirit dwelling in them: the dominion of the whole body of sin is destroyed, and the several lusts thereof are more and more weakened and mortified; and they more and more quickened and strengthened in all saving graces, to the practice of true holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.
2. This sanctification is throughout, in the whole man; yet imperfect in this life, there abiding still some remnants of corruption in every part; whence ariseth a continual and irreconcilable war, the flesh lusting against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh.
3. In which war, although the remaining corruption, for a time, may much prevail; yet, through the continual supply of strength from the sanctifying Spirit of Christ, the regenerate part doth overcome; and so, the saints grow in grace, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Dr. Lloyd Long, Ruling Elder

PASTORAL PRAYER AND LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
